Hey guys. I've been in the market for upgrading my front and rear brakes on my 89' RX-7 GTUS. I've searched high and low and have only been able to find 4 and 6 piston caliper upgrades for the front but none for the rear. Does anyone know of any companies that might have an upgrade kit for the rears? It's pretty much a Turbo 2 rear end with the vented brake discs. Or does anyone know if the FD RX-7 rear brakes will fit on the rear? If it does then maybe I can buy a 4 piston caliper kit for the FD and put it on my FC. Anything helps guys. Thanks.

Is there something wrong with yours?? The FC's brakes are quite good, unless you're doing some serious driving those will hold up to quite a lot of abuse....

I'm actually planning on upgrading my turbo to the a-spec tuning gt35r t4 kit and i figured i should probably upgrade my brakes before doing so. I'm looking into the endless 6 pot big brake upgrade for the front but could not seem to find a rear upgrade from any manufacturer for the rear. I know that when braking the weight transfers to the front but i'm worried about brake bias that could cause brake lock up.

i think corksport makes a fd 99 rear BBK upgrade. not sure how it will all work with stock proportioning valve though.

yeah, that was the closest thing i could find for a rear big brake upgrade. but doesnt it just come with a bracket to mount the stock caliper farther so that an fd rotor can be retrofitted on? i dont see how a larger rotor will help in stopping. doesn't the actual braking area consist of the rotor and brake pad surface area? so if the rotor was retrofitted to a larger diameter rotor but the brake pad surface area stays the same, how does that change anything? better cooling and less brake fade maybe?

the kit should come with the rotor and whatever else you need to mount it. i would think you would need to cut the dust shield. not sure how to explain it scientifically but the position of the caliper along with the bigger rotor give you more clamping force because of increased leverage. calipers should be farther out from center due to a larger rotor and the spacer to make the caliper fit. the extra surface area and mass also helps with brake fade.

if thats the only rear upgrade available maybe i'll give it a try. i know some guys that have a cnc machine and maybe i could buy the fd rear brake upgrade and fabricate a mount to fit it. anyone interested?
